Yōkai Watch (妖怪ウォッチ, lit. "Yōkai Uotchi") is a media franchise by Level-5. The game is one of the biggest hit projects by Level-5 containing some of the same styles and elements as two other top major video games by Level-5, which they are; Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven. The current four main IP games in the series as well as two spin offs are available only on the Nintendo 3DS, as well as some other Yokai Watch branded games for other gaming systems including mobile. Only the first 3DS has been localized for other regions (outside Japan) so far. The Yokai Watch franchise is also comprised of a television anime series, movies, several different manga series, and a vast line of toys and games.
Storyline[edit | edit source]
The story line of the game follows the main protagonist named Keita (Nathan) or Fumika (Katie) (depending on the player's choice) who discovers, on one hot summer day, an old capsule toy vending machine (called a gacha) in the forest. Keita receives a mysterious watch which he meets a ghost butler with the name Whisper. Whisper tells Keita that the watch allows him to see supernatural creatures that he could never see before in a everyday life. Keita alongside with Whisper and his companion Jibanyan explores the town to search for other ghosts to battle.
